The Half Circle Singers.

Based in north Birmingham, England, Half circle singers were founded about 30 years ago by former members of the choir of Aston Parish Church and some members of the original group are still members of the choir.

The name comes from the half circle in which the original group stood when performing.
The choir’s repertoire includes both sacred and secular works of all periods, embracing both challenging classical music and light, popular songs. In recent concerts we have sung pieces ranging from La Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini to I got Rhythm by Gershwin.

We give concerts throughout the year around the Birmingham area and beyond. There have been three tours abroad: to Paris, Normandy and Belgium. Highlights included singing in Notre Dame Cathedral and La Madeleine and contributing to the Last Post ceremony at Ypres. Nearer home we have sung services in Coventry, Birmingham and Lichfield cathedrals. In addition to our main Autumn, Summer and Christmas concerts we perform on request for a variety of social events including Masonic dinners and church celebrations.

While our main aim is to enjoy making music and entertaining our audience, we also have a commitment to raising money for charity. We support a different local charity each year and in 2011 our chosen charity was Acorn’s Children’s Hospice.

The choir is currently looking for new members in the soprano, alto and tenor sections. We rehearse in Four Oaks on Friday evenings. If you think you might like to join us, please contact our choir secretary, Chairman Michael Pyke on 01543 480527. Michael would also like to hear from you if you have an event at which you would like the choir to perform.
